In June 2024, we funded 9 SunKing 200x home solar systems for Ayowecca Uganda's Volunteers including three women leaders. Also funded mobile phones for the volunteers so that they can better communicate and record their work and impact.

At the Solar Foundation, we believe that off-grid solar power is not an end in itself, but a means to increased well-being and prosperity especially for underserved communities. While we focus on enabling solar and solar-powered appliances, we also fund other items to help people leverage the benefits of the clean power. In this specific case, we included funding for mobile phones and home solar systems for the Ayowecca team that is composed largely of volunteers. The phones will increase communication and also the ability to take pictures to showcase the impact of their work, and the solar systems will educate these community leaders on the value and utility of solar and help them support our work to bring solar power and solar-powered appliances to more people in Tororo, Uganda.

"The women leaders in our community requested a home solar system for a diverse use of power within their homes. The clean, reliable power provides better lighting in their homes especially when they're cooking in the kitchen. The solar power also enables their children to be able to read books and do their homework after dark and increases the security of their homes."
